How to plan a Valheim base in 3D

Valheim Base Builder lets you test a structure before committing materials in game. Arrange floors, walls, frames, roofs, doors, stairs and detail pieces on an interactive 3D grid, then save the plan locally or share it from an optional account.

Snap modes

Auto

Automatically matches compatible nearby snap points. Use this for most connected floors, walls, beams and roofs.

Manual

Lets you cycle the source snap point with Q and E. Use it when a crowded joint keeps choosing the wrong edge or corner.

Free

Disables piece-to-piece snapping and places against the hit surface. Use it for deliberate offsets and decorative layouts.

Hold Alt for fine placement: snapping is switched off and the piece moves on a 0.25 m grid until you release it. In Auto or Manual mode, the gold and green markers identify the target and source points used by the preview.

On touch devices, tap to place a piece and use two fingers to move the camera: drag to pan, pinch to zoom, twist to rotate the view, and drag two side-by-side fingers up or down to tilt it. The Camera button makes one-finger drags orbit the camera instead. Undo, rotation, snap, and delete controls sit in the action bar at the bottom of the screen.

Layers

Use layers to separate a basement, each floor, or furniture so you can work on one part of a build at a time. New pieces go into the active layer, and the eye button hides or shows a layer. Turn on Assign pieces to click existing pieces into the active layer. Quick hide switches furniture and decor or crafting stations off in one click. Layers are kept in planner JSON and cloud saves; .vbuild and .blueprint exports ignore them. On touch devices, open the Layers tab in the build menu.

Build height, under the layers, moves the whole build up or down by the step you choose. Use it when an imported blueprint sits too high or too low. If any pieces end up below the ground, Lift build onto ground raises the build until its lowest piece rests on the ground. Each move is one undo step.

Prefab structures

The Prefab Structure tab keeps saved builds you can stamp into any other build, such as a gatehouse, a tower, or a roof section. Choose Import JSON / blueprint to add a planner JSON or PlanBuild .blueprint under its project name, or Save current build to add what you are working on. Select a prefab, rotate it with R, and click to place it; hold Alt for 0.25 m steps. Its pieces become normal pieces, so their material costs count toward the build total, and one undo removes the whole prefab.

Like any single piece, a prefab is held by its bottom centre, so it sits centred on your cursor and rests on whatever surface you point at. Prefabs are stored in this browser; use the export button on a prefab to keep a copy or share it.

Save and share

Download a build as JSON, .vbuild, or .blueprint. An optional account adds private cloud saves and public sharing.
